The desk system, designed by the Italian designer Paolo Rizzatto comprises of a large number of various parts. Although it complied with the Dutch Standards, the stiffness appeared to be insufficient. BPO analysed the desk on part level to determine the weak points in the design. Specifically one part was very suitable for improvements; the ‘Occa’, the aluminium joint part between desk and foot.

Result:

Calculations show that the renewed Occa design has a positive influence on the stiffness of the desk. It was sound to invest in a new mould for the aluminium injection moulded part and to start up production. The new desk proved to be substantially stiffer; without affecting the aesthetics.
