Scoop Bookshelf

BPO has supported Allibert with the development of the Scoop Bookshelf that fits within the existing ATLAS drawer set system. Based on CAD-models of the drawer set and mock-up models of the bookshelf BPO developed several concepts. Using FEM-analyses the different concepts were compared and the most promising concept was engineering in 3D CAD to a producible design.

When running the analyses the requirement that the bookshelf must be able to carry 20 kilo of books for a period of 2 to 5 years was taken into account. Also the stability of the bookshelf was optimised.

The geometry of the bookshelf is characterised by the tubular profiles, made by long cores in the mould. By using very small draft angles it has been possible to produce the part without losing its optical characteristics. The compatibility with the drawer set has been guaranteed for 100% so the bookshelf can be placed below as well as above a drawer.

The product is made of PP, already during construction this has been taken into account. For instance, to prevent sink marks at the front of the bookshelf the ribs have been made with the smallest possible wall thickness that still guarantee sufficient strength and stiffness.

The bookshelf, consisting of a horizontal shelf, four legs and four end caps, is currently being produced and is part of the product catalogue of Allibert.
